Read Across America – Literacy Night
Friday March 2, 2012
2:30pm-6:00pm
FOOD AND DRINKS FOR SALE
We need parents and community members to spend 15-20 minutes reading to the students.
On March 2nd afterschool, the teachers and staff of Westside Global Awareness Magnet want to emphasize the importance of children’s literacy. The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America is a year-round literacy project that encourages readers, both young and old, to celebrate reading.
Please consider taking time out of your day to read to a Westside Global Awareness Class. The time you donate is invaluable to our students. You don’t have to be an English professor to read to a group of students. We welcome everyone and encourage you to read in any language including English, Spanish, Japanese, French, and Chinese!
Please contact Dr. Singer to sign up.
Black History Month Elementary Program
Please join us on February 29th at 10:15am for a Black History Month Program presented by the elementary grades. Parking will be available on campus and you may enter on Strongs Drive. See you there.
Mentor a child and make a difference
Volunteers needed
Westside Global is looking for volunteers willing to work one on one with a child a couple hours a month or volunteer in the classrooms on a regular basis. Studies have shown that one on one time with a child can make a huge difference in a child’s education. If you can read OR do basic math, you can help! If you are interested, please contact Amy Holcomb for more information. We need volunteers for reading/English and/or math for grades K thru 8th. It takes a village to raise a child! Thank you.
